In September, Town Council approved a request by the South Granville Rotary Club to locate a Little Free Library in Gazebo Park. Little Free Libraries play an essential role by providing access to books and encouraging a love of reading in areas where books may be scarce. What distinguishes a Little Free Library from other public book exchanges is Little Free Library is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that “inspires a love of reading, builds community, and sparks creativity by fostering neighborhood book exchanges around the world.” Each Little Free Library is registered with an official charter sign and charter number.
A Little Free Library boasts the free “take a book, return a book” motto. Children, youth and adults of all ages and backgrounds can share in the give and take. More than 50,000 Little Free Libraries have been installed around the world. On Wednesday, October 11, 2017, a Little Free Library was installed near the bulletin board kiosk to the rear of the park. The Town invites the public to (re)discover the joy of reading with the addition of this book exchange to the Butner community.
