The Butner Town Council met on November 2, 2017. Council passed a resolution and a budget amendment moving funds around within the Community Block Grants (CBG) to begin construction on the Veterans Life Center (VLC). Council also renewed the required Fair Housing Plan and Language Access Plan associated with the project. During this meeting, Council approved several amendments to the Land Development Ordinance (LDO): adopting the State-designated stormwater map, removing the Universal Stormwater Management Plan, and adopting the Water Supply Watershed Rules. The Water Supply Watershed Rules will streamline the permitting process and coordinate with the State-required Falls Lake Rules. Council also approved amendments that will allow the Ordinance Administrator to approve Major Subdivision Final Plats and the option to require pre-submittal meetings for development. Council approved the Preliminary Plat for Applewood Townes West, a 49-unit townhome development.
Council approved the Granville County Comprehensive Transportation Plan (CTP). Besides the County and its municipalities, other stakeholders include NC DOT, Kerr-Tar Regional Planning Organization (KTRPO) and the Capital Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (CAMPO). Lynette Bailey was appointed to the Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee and Martin Sinicki was appointed to the Stormwater Advisory Committee. The Town welcomes applications to various appointed boards and committees year round. For more information, click here. Council approved a revised version of their Rules of Procedures, updating the 2008 version. The revision reflects legislative changes, Town practices and provides general clarification of rules. They also adopted the 2018 Regular Meeting Date Calendar. The Council will continue to meet monthly on the first Thursday at 6:00 p.m.
A Finance Committee meeting was scheduled for Tuesday, November 14, 2017 at 5:00 p.m. in Town Hall to discuss the renovation of the Old Fire Station. With a $3,200 estimate for lighting the Butner Athletic Park (BAP), Council requested staff get an additional estimate. “F” Street improvements, including paving and culvert replacements, should begin soon. Staff has received favorable comments from Granville County for the requested Parks and Recreation Grant that would partially fund playground equipment at Lake Holt. A final determination on funds distribution by the County Commissioners has yet to be confirmed.
Butner Celebrates 10 Years

The 8th Annual Community Campfire was held on Saturday, November 4, 2017 at Lake Holt. We had a great turn out for this event and enjoyed meeting everyone who attended. Adults and kids alike enjoyed roasting marshmallows, making and eating s’mores. This event is held annually at the end of October/beginning of November and is sponsored by the Town of Butner and the Parks & Recreation Advisory Committee.
The Butner Planning Board met on Thursday, November 9, 2017. Two members were absent: Martin Sinicki and John Glenn.
The Board considered an amendment to the Land Development Ordinance, Article 17 – Definitions to allow two unit townhouses and redefine duplexes to differentiate them from a two unit townhouse.
The Board also considered a rezoning request for a Planned Unit Development with up to 342 homes in a mix of single-family detached homes and two unit townhomes. The properties are currently zoned Suburban Residential (RS) and the applicant is requesting Conditional District Planned Unit Development (CD-PUD). The requested rezoning is two properties located west of US 15, north of Gate Two Road and adjacent to the existing Wynngate and Meadows at Wynngate subdivisions, more specifically identified as Tax Map #’s 0875-0298-3765 and 0875-0287-5808.
The Board recommended approval of the text amendment application and rezoning request.
Board of Adjustment
The Butner Board of Adjustment will not meet this month.
Town Hall and Operations will be closed on Thursday, November 23 and Friday, November 24 for the Thanksgiving holiday. Town Hall will reopen on Monday, November 27 at 8:00 a.m.
