Town of Butner facilities remain closed to the public, and we are not renting spaces for the foreseeable future until sanitation stations are installed in each area. We will post once facilities reopen. Stay safe and healthy.



The Butner Town Council believes that the community is best served when there is a diverse representation of volunteer citizens on the Town’s Boards and Committees. Many opportunities exist for citizens to become more involved with issues that affect our community. The Town is currently soliciting applications for the following Committees and Boards.

Applications are available at Butner Town Hall 415 Central Avenue, Suite A or by calling the Office of the Town Clerk at 919-575-3109.

Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee.  Seven-member committee advise staff on recreational activities and facility planning.  In order to address all types of recreational activities, applicants with interests in competitive and/or non-competitive activities are encouraged to apply.  The Committee meets every other month on the second Monday at 6:30 pm in Butner Town Hall.  Butner residency is preferred. 

Stormwater Advisory Committee – Seven-member committee provides guidance to Town Council and staff on stormwater related items such as public outreach, education, and involvement requirements as well as the overall stormwater management plan for Butner and the utility. The committee helps advise staff on the best topics to be addressed in utility bill inserts, brochures, and newsletter and website articles. The committee meets quarterly as needed on the first Tuesday of the month (Jan., Apr., July, Oct.) at 7:00 pm in Butner Town Hall.  Butner or Butner ETJ residency is required.

Zoning Board of Adjustment – The seven-member Zoning Board enforces the Town of Butner’s Zoning Ordinance and can hear appeals, grant variances and issue special use permits. The Board meets as needed on the fourth Thursday at 7:00 p.m. in Butner Town Hall.  Butner residency is required.

Planning Board – Seven-member committee makes recommendations to the Town Council on subdivision and zoning matters within the Town’s zoning jurisdiction.  The Board meets as needed on the second Thursday of each month at 7:00 pm in Butner Town Hall. 

Applications for the above Boards are due by December 7, 2018 and will be kept on file until December 31, 2019. Applications must be completed for reappointment as well.
