GOVERNOR SIGNS LAND DEAL FOR TOWN OF BUTNER
The North Carolina General Assembly passed on July 10 and Governor Roy Cooper signed on July 19 House Bill 757 approving the land transfer of approximately 36 acres of state-owned land to the Town of Butner – all for the price of one dollar.
The 36 acres, more commonly known as the Umstead Correctional Property, will be transferred from the NC Department of Health and Human Services(DHHS) and the NC Department of Public Safety(DPS).
The Town is excited to acquire this centrally located piece of property which has been closed since 2009. The parcel is bounded by West D Street and 12 Street, and contains 7 buildings and a pond.
The Town would like to thank Senator Woodard, Representative Yarborough, DPS Attorney Alicia Davis, and Polk Correctional Institution Superintendent Johnny Hawkins for their instrumental efforts in the transfer.
