Butner Town Council Regular Monthly Meeting

The Butner Town Council met on January 2 for their Regular Monthly meeting.

Butner Planner Jessica Gladwin’s last day of employment was December 31, 2019. After seven years with Butner, she will join the City of Raleigh as a Planner. Mayor Turner and Town Manager Marrow shared her accomplishments and offered congratulations. She thanked the Board for the opportunity to serve them and the Community.  She was “excited about her new position but sad to leave Butner”.

Falls Lake Lady Firebirds varsity volleyball team was recognized by proclamation for winning their second consecutive NCHSAA 1A State Championship.

Architect Tony Conner presented a comprehensive assessment of the buildings on the Umstead Correctional Property that was received as part of NCGS Session Law 2019-137, HB 757. The Conclusion included the following quote “The total to renovate all buildings except building #2 would be approximately $21,000,000.  The Total investment to demolish the structures would be approximately $695,000 plus asbestos remediation.”  Conner recommended developing a Request for Proposal for development recommendations.  The RFP could put building restrictions on the property, require the developer to demolish the buildings prior to development, or to keep the request broad and see what ideas may be proposed.  For the full report click here Umstead Assessment

Jacob Lemberg from W.L. Stark and Co. presented to annual audit report for FY 2018-19.

 Results produced a good financial year with an unmodified opinion.  There were no audit findings, including the audit on the grant funds.  No material audit adjustments were proposed.  The Financial Health of Butner is good.   For the full report click here. Town-of-Butner-CAFR-2019.pdf

Martin Sinicki, James Adams and Bill Cheek were reappointed to the Planning Board for 4-year terms expiring January 2024.

Bill Crosby, Constance Wortham were reappointed as primary members and Bill Cheek was appointed as an alternate member to the Board of Adjustment for 3-year terms expiring 2023.

Updates to the Town’s Personnel Policy were adopted to comply with changes to employment law, recommendations made during the recent Pay and Classification Study and Administrative recommendations.

An Open House for the 701 Building will be held in on January 21 from 4-6 PM.

The letter supporting the DMV Mobile Unit in Creedmoor was successful. They will continue to have the unit every other month beginning in January on the first Thursday of the first full week.  

Both the Council Room and the Camp Butner Room will have updated AV equipment. The Council Room will get a new projector and update the connections to HDMI.  The Camp Butner Room will get a wireless HDMI connection.
New Security Cameras will be installed at Town Hall.
