Terry Turner, Mayor

Mr. Turner was born in Vance County, raised in Franklin County and has lived in Butner for 28 years. Mr. Turner possesses several college degrees in Education and Political Science from Louisburg Junior College and Western Carolina University, including a Masters Degree in Education. He also has a NC Electircal Contractor’s license. Mr. Turner is a retired state employee in fields like education, electrical, civics, and local government. He served as a non-commissioned officer in the U.S. Marine Corps. Mr. Turner now works as a middle and high school substitute teacher. Mr. Turner serves on the following committees: Granville County Greenway Technical Committee (GTC), Granville County Environmental Affairs and Granville County Veterans Affairs. He also serves on the Butner Community Building Committee and is chairman of the Military Holiday Committee.

Linda Russell Jordon was born and raised on a farm in Virginia. She has lived in Butner for 27 years. Linda received her Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from NC Wesleyan College while working full time. She continued her education and received her Master of Science in Organizational Change and Leadership from Pfeiffer University. Linda is currently pursuing her PhD at Ashford University and working on her dissertation in Organizational Development and Leadership. With a passion and gifts to help others succeed, Linda found that developing leaders and individuals is where she thrives most. Linda retired from her 9 to 5 job of 27.5 years and is now an entrepreneur and currently owns and operates five companies.
Linda has served her community as an elected official, Butner Town Council from 2004 to 2017. During the time in office, Linda was heavily involved in the incorporation of her town, Butner NC. She is currently a board member on the Human Relations Commission of Granville County, board member for the Granville County Habitat for Humanity and a member of the Butner Citizens Planning Ahead Committee.
Linda is Green Belt certified in Business Process Improvement, Certified Trainer for Practical Coaching in the Workplace, Certified Life Coach and an Independent Certified Coach, Teacher and Speaker with the John Maxwell Team.
Michel D. Branch

Mr. Branch has lived in Butner for more than 10 years. He was re-elected in November 2017 for a four-year term. Mr. Branch received an Associates degree in Computer Science with a minor in Business from Montgomery College in Takoma Park, MD. He received a B.A. in Political Science with a minor in Information Science from the University of Pittsburgh in Pittsburgh, PA and a Masters in Public Health from A.T. Still University in Kirksville, MO. Mr. Branch is employed by UNC School of Medicine as an Application Analyst. He serves on the following committees: Community Building, Parks & Recreation Advisory Committee, Finance Committee and Butner Community Association (BCA).

Mr. Gooch was born and raised in Granville County in the Wilton community. He graduated from South Granville High School. He has extensive experience in water management and is currently employed by the City of Durham in the Department of Water Management. Mr. Gooch has lived in Butner for eight years, during which time he has served on the Granville County Animal Control Advisory Committee and as a member of The Camp Butner Society.
Bill McKellar, Mayor Pro Tem

Mr. McKellar was born in Dillon County, SC and lived in Bladen and Robeson counties. He has lived in Butner for 42 years. He has served on the Council for six years and his current term expires in 2019. Mr. McKellar received a BS in Pharmacy from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He is retired as a self-employed pharmacist and is still a registered pharmacist. Mr. McKellar serves on the following committees: Finance, Community Building, Upper Neuse River Basin Association (UNRBA) Board of Directors, and planning committees for Memorial Day and Veterans Day events. He also serves as a member of the Murdoch Center Human Rights Committee.
Thomas W. Lane

Mr. Lane was born in Kinston and has lived in Butner since 1947. He attended Creedmoor High School, obtained a Bachelor of Science from NC State University and a Masters degree from UNC- Chapel Hill. He is a member of Community United Methodist Church and served as Director and Assistant Director for various mental health and rehabilitation programs around the state. Mr. Lane served as Butner Mayor 2007-2015. He served as a program specialist for the NC Recreation Commission. He is a member of the following committees: Camp Butner Society, Granville County Crime Stoppers, Kerr-Tar Council of Governments Board of Directors and Regional Planning Organization’s Technical Advisory Committee (TAC).

Mrs. Smoak was born and raised in Person County, NC and has lived in Butner for 35 years. She received a BS in Social Work from East Carolina University and retired from Murdoch Center having worked in positions including Social Work, Unit Manager and Division Director. Mrs. Smoak was elected in 2015 and her term expires in 2019. She serves on the following committees: Landscape & Beautification Committee, Finance Committee, Butner Church Council, and the Granville Greenways Advisory Council (GGAC).
