Born in Vance County and raised in Franklin County, Mayor Turner has lived in Butner for 28 years. He attended Louisburg Junior College and Western Carolina University (WCU), studying education and political science. He is a licensed NC Electrical Contractor and currently works as a middle and high school substitute teacher. Prior to being elected mayor in 2017, Mr. Turner served on the Parks & Recreation Subcommittee and the Fireman’s Relief Fund Board. He also served two terms on Butner Town Council. In 2015, he received the Outstanding Elected Municipal Award from the Kerr-Tar Council of Governments.
As mayor, Mr. Turner is a servant of the people, who has visions of the Town of Butner continuing to prosper and still maintain a small-town atmosphere. He wants Butner to continue its quaint setting where people want to live and work. He hopes to preserve the Town as a pleasant place to build a career and raise a family.
Some of the Mayor’s top priorities during his two-year term will be to accomplish his visions of seeing Butner as a vibrant community. They are water, growth, community development, defining what is Butner, and acquiring Umstead Correctional Center.
