Food Trucks

Thinking about bringing a food truck to Butner? Here’s what you need to know:

How do I get a Food Truck Permit?

• Obtain a valid Health Department permit (from any North Carolina county).
• Register your vehicle or trailer with the State of North Carolina.
• Secure a permission letter from the property owner (or have them sign the application).
• Apply online at http://app.govwell.com/butner or submit a paper application. Include your Health Permit, Permission Letter, and Vehicle Registration for review.

How much does it cost?
There is a $50 annual fee. A permit is required each time you set up, and we’ll let you know if your annual fee needs to be renewed.

How often can food trucks operate?
There’s no limit per food truck—as long as permits are obtained.
However, each property may host food trucks up to 12 times per year.

Where can food trucks operate?
• Commercial properties with an active business (including nonprofits and churches)
• Residential areas like HOAs or apartment complexes (not individual homes)
• Town parks (with approval or as part of a Town event)

Where are food trucks NOT allowed?
• Vacant properties
• Individual homes
• Public streets (without Town approval)

Overnight parking?
Food trucks may operate from 6:00 a.m. to midnight but must be removed when not in use. Overnight parking is not permitted.
