The Butner Town Council convened for its regular monthly meeting on Thursday, January 4, at Butner Town Hall. The following list includes key takeaways from the meeting.

  • Finance Director Hak Ung was presented with the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting on behalf of the Town of Butner. This is the fourth consecutive year the Town has received this award which is the highest form of recognition in governmental accounting and financial reporting. Its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management.
  • The Town of Butner received and accepted the FY 2022-23 Audit Report from Thompson, Price, Scott, Adams & Company, confirming a clean audit. The Town is in good financial standing.
  • Council approved a rezoning and concept plan for approximately 334 acres off West Lyon Station Road. The rezoning was approved with a total of 17 conditions. The properties rezoned included tax parcels 088803312100, 088701490503, and 088701372426 and were rezoned from Rural Residential (RR) and Suburban Residential (RS) to Planned Unit Development (PUD) as requested by Meritage Homes. Meritage intends to eventually build 783 single family homes on the property.
  • Council approved the Town Manager and Town Attorney to finalize a contract with Timmons Group totaling $149,900 for design services for the C-12-24 Streets sidewalk project. Design work is set to occur in 2024 with construction planned in future years.
  • Council approved a change to the regular monthly meeting time, moving it from 7:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., beginning with the February 1, 2024 meeting.
