Dear Residents,

The Butner Town Council convened for its regular monthly meeting on Thursday, May 2, at Butner Town Hall. The following list includes key takeaways from the meeting.

  • Council proclaimed May as “National Cities, Towns, and Villages Month” in recognition of the importance of local government service. The proclamation is part of a national effort to uplift municipal governments led by the National League of Cities (NLC), a nonpartisan organization of city, town and village leaders focused on improving the quality of life for their current and future residents.

  • Council approved TA.24.04 Article 2 Administration, designating the Board of Adjustment duties to the Planning Board.

  • Council approved a contract for the Fiscal Year 2023-24 audit with Thompson, Price, Scott, Adams & Co., P.A. The firm (from Whiteville, NC) previously won the bid for three years and FY 2023-24 will be the third year at a cost not to exceed $31,000. The NC Local Government Commission division of the State Treasurer’s Office requires the Town to establish a yearly contract date of approval.

  • Council approved the award of on-call architectural and engineering services to HagerSmith Architects, Oakley Collier Architects, WithersRavenel, Davis, Martin, Powell, LKC Engineering, and Summit Engineering.  On-call contracts provide the Town with flexibility for future design and construction projects.

  • Council approved the construction contract for a new performance stage to be built at Gazebo Park. Engineered Construction Company was awarded the project at a cost of $718,500.  Construction is set to begin summer 2024 with completion by early 2025.

  • Town Manager McMillen presented the recommended FY2024-25 budget. The proposed budget totals $10,823,135 and includes a tax rate of 40 cents per $100 in value following the recent Granville County revaluation. The budget prepares the Town for future growth and service needs, advances the Town’s Information Technology and Wi-Fi availability, prioritizes resident safety, and focuses on community appearance among other things. Town council will receive public comments on the budget at their June 6 meeting.  The budget can be reviewed at https://www.butnernc.org/bc-council/page/notice-public-hearing-town-butn...
