Town of Butner Announces New Sidewalk Improvement Project

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Butner, N.C., (Feb. 16, 2023) – The Town of Butner has announced that it is proceeding with a new sidewalk improvement project. The main goal of the project is to improve sidewalks on portions of West D. Street, West E. Street, and 12th Street in Butner, N.C.

The sidewalk improvement project is an important step in increasing the safety and accessibility of pedestrian walkways throughout the Town of Butner.  This project aims to improve mobility, safety, and walkability for pedestrians on Town streets by ensuring they are up to ADA standards and are free from debris, cracks, and other hazards.

Existing sidewalks will be removed and replaced with new six-foot-wide sidewalks in the project area. Sidewalks will also be built in areas where they do not currently exist. This project will complete a walkable loop from Central Avenue, West D. Street, 12th Street, and West E. Street. When finished, the newly built sidewalks will provide Butner residents with over 1.2 miles of improved walking space to enjoy.

After a sufficient number of bids are received, the Town of Butner will consider the selection of a construction company to undertake the project during the March 2nd Town Council meeting. The sidewalk improvement project is anticipated to be complete by the early summer of 2023.
