Butner Public Safety and the Oxford Police Department, in collaboration with Hyundai Motor America, are providing steering wheel locks to Hyundai and Kia vehicle owners in response to the increasing thefts of Hyunda and Kia automobiles.

To be eligible to receive the wheel lock device, Hyundai or Kia owners must be residents of Granville County, and they must arrive in a 2011 to 2021 Hyundai or Kia model with a key start ignition that has not received the anti-theft software upgrade from the manufacturer.

A valid North Carolina registration and valid North Carolina ID are required to receive one of the locks. Residents who meet the criteria can stop by Butner Public Safety located at 611 Central Avenue in Butner for a free steering wheel lock. The locks will be given away on a first-come, first-served basis.
