Construction of Butner Athletic Park

The need for an outdoor athletic facility began with the Butner Advisory Council (pre-incorporation). The Advisory Council negotiated with the NC National Guard to use the proposed site for heavy equipment training. The Guard moved a lot of dirt and rocks which paved the way for the new facility. Upon incorporation, the Town had the funds to begin the design process for the new ballpark. The Butner Athletic Park (BAP) was dedicated on September 9, 2013. It consists of four fields: two baseball fields, one softball field and one multipurpose/soccer field. The facility also includes a walking trail, concessions building, restrooms, a meeting room, and playground equipment for all ages. The BAP is the home field for most South Granville Athletic Association (SGAA) ball games and serves as a popular tournament facility drawing teams from across North Carolina and southern Virginia.
