Lake Holt

Lake Holt was impounded in 1965 to supply water to the Department of Health and Human Services and other local governments. The lake is approximately 385 acres in size. There is a tackle shop, restaurant and restrooms. There are boat ramps with parking. In addition, there is a picnic shelter with picnic tables overlooking the lake.

In 2012, the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission revised the regulations for Black Bass in Lake Holt. Anglers fishing for largemouth bass can now keep up to 10 fish per day with no minimum size limit. Only 2 bass may be greater than 14 inches. For more information, please visit NC Wildlife.org.

Lake Holt Facility Improvements: July-August 2018

To complement the new playground equipment at Lake Holt, the Town of Butner installed two gazebos with new picnic tables. The addition of new benches also provide parents a spot to sit while the kids play on the playground. New signs were installed at Old Hwy 75 and at the building. A Ribbon Cutting Ceremony was held on August 24 in honor of the playground equipment and grand re-opening of the concessions building.

Lake Holt Facility Improvements: March 2018

The Town installed a new playground at Lake Holt. It consists of two belt swings, one net swing and a play structure with two towers, a spider net, a fireman’s pole, and a slide. The playground is designed for children aged 5-12. The Town received a grant from Granville County for $25,000 and the Town contributed funds to complete the project. Other planned improvements for this area include a chained walk way between the playground and picnic shelter, adding two gazebos with picnic tables near the playground, and landscaping around the playground.
