Mr. Lane was born in Kinston and has lived in Butner since 1947. He attended Creedmoor High School, obtained a Bachelor of Science from NC State University and a Masters degree from UNC- Chapel Hill. He is a member of Community United Methodist Church and served as Director and Assistant Director for various mental health and rehabilitation programs around the state. Mr. Lane served as Butner Mayor 2007-2015. He served as a program specialist for the NC Recreation Commission. He is a member of the following committees: Camp Butner Society, Granville County Crime Stoppers, Kerr-Tar Council of Governments Board of Directors and Regional Planning Organization’s Technical Advisory Committee (TAC).
